At its deepest levels, curiosity has the power to do much more than give us informational anecdotes for cocktail hour. It can stir our hearts and spirits, becoming a force for meaningful connection and transformation. It can strengthen our relationships to ourselves and each other, help us navigate disagreements better, revive decades-old marriages, or heal from past pain or trauma. It invites us to ask questions that involve nuance and surprise.
~ Scott Shigeoka, from How to see the humanity in anyone
Sometimes I wonder if the single catalyst for everything isn’t simply curiosity. Without it I don’t see how I would ever get interested enough in anything, to ever actually work on it. Which leads me to consider that when I’m not actively curious about something, that’s when I also run out of ability to work on it. It seems a fine balance to keep enough curiosity in the fuel tank. Use that curiosity to explore, dream and do, while also spending enough time on restorative things which enable more curiosity to appear.
